I come to the privilege of this calling after a variety of life experiences. These life experiences shaped me and led me to the place where "by turning, turning, we come round right" (lyrics from a well-known Shaker hymn). The daughter of dairy farmers in northeastern Iowa, my first calling was in music. This was a journey which led me to singing in many different countries and cultures as well as having a nine-year consecutive solo career as an opera singer at the Metropolitan Opera.
As part of moving into another chapter of my life, my "turning, turning" led me to a therapist specializing in life transitions. Out of that experience was born a passion and calling for becoming a therapist myself, which led to receiving a Masters of Social Work degree from New York University in 2003. In addition, I received a post-graduate certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Blanton-Peale Institute in New York in 2006, after an intensive full-time residency specializing in that area.
As part of my education and licensure-qualifying internships, I have worked with many wide-ranging and diverse populations. In addition, I have worked with military personnel and their families at the Family Life Chaplain Training and Resource Center full-time at Fort Hood from September 2006 until September 2008.
I began my private practice in Salado in December 2006, while still working at Fort Hood. In August 2009, I opened an additional practice in Georgetown. In addition, I am on the advisory boards for the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP) at the Family Life Chaplain Training and Resource Center at Fort Hood and Therapy Center Stage, a not-for-profit organization in Waco specializing in mental health awareness.
I hold licensure both as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Texas.
